NHRA Saturday Results - Pomona
|
Spencer Massey and Don Prudhomme Racing's U. S. Smokeless Tobacco Company dragster qualified No. 8 on Saturday for Sunday's eliminations at the Winternationals at Pomona, Calif.
After qualifying sessions on Thursday and Friday were rained out, the weather also only allowed for one qualifying round on Saturday. On the U. S. Smokeless Racing team's lone run, Massey posted the second quickest reaction time (.071) among the top fuel field, pedaled the throttle and crossed the finish line with an elapsed time of 3.986 seconds. While NHRA had hoped for a second qualifying round, the decision was made to set Sunday's elimination field of 16 based on the single qualifying session.
As the No. 8 qualifier, Massey will face No. 9 Mike Strasburg in Sunday's opening round of eliminations, scheduled for 11:00am PT.
Low qualifier was Antron Brown (3.708) and No. 16 Steve Faria (4.854) held the final, bump spot. Notable non-qualifiers in top fuel were No. 17 Clay Millican and No. 18 Larry Dixon.
