Snake Racing - Bristol Testing - Monday
|
Following a 17th-place qualifying result this past weekend in Bristol, Spencer Massey and the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company dragster team remained at Bristol Dragway for its third testing session of the season on Monday. The test marked the third time the team has held test sessions since the start of the 2009 season, leaving one remaining test date for the team this year, as regulated by NHRA. Crew chiefs Don Bender and Todd Smith and the U.S. Smokeless Racing crew prepared the dragster for Massey to make five laps down the Thunder Valley drag strip. The main area of focus was to improve the performance and consistency of components found in the car's clutch department, as well as to evaluate other mechanical parts effecting the car's tune-up combination. Of the five laps, four were "complete passes" and one run was planned for early shutdown. All four of Massey's "full" test laps would have easily secured a place in last Sunday's elimination round at Bristol. Massey, who averaged a .055 reaction time during Bristol's four qualifying sessions, continued to produce impressive lights at the starting line, averaging a .056 reaction time during testing. Below are the incremental numbers (Reaction time, 60-foot, 330-foot, 660-foot/speed & 1,000-foot elapsed time) for each of Massey's five test laps on Monday; T1 .049 - RT .855 - 60 FT 2.213 - 330 FT 3.162/267 - 660 FT ET & MPH 3.960 - 1,000 FT
